
Dhaka University on Thursday banned political activities of the university’s students, teachers, officers and employees on the campus, following demand of the students.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting at the office of the vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, who also chaired the meeting.
A member of the syndicate said that the meeting started at 7:00pm and ended at 9:00pm.
The only agenda of the meeting was politics on the university campus, he said, adding that the current situation of the campus was also discussed at the meeting.
‘All members reached consensus on the issue of stopping political activities on the campus,’ he added.Â
During the student-led quota reform movement in July, turned to mass uprising and forced Sheikh Hasina to resign as prime minister and fled to India on August 5, students also demanded ban on practice of partisan politics on university campuses.
Following that, so far authorities of different universities and colleges including - Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Dhaka Medical College, and Chittagong Medical College banned on-campus politics following students’ demand.
