Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman in a virtual speech at a rally said that the interim government should not do anything that would give the allies of the dictatorial government a chance to return.
BNP organised the rally at Kishoreganj’s old stadium ground on Monday in memory of those killed in the recent anti-discrimination movement. The families of the martyrs were given financial assistance by BNP.
‘While working for establishing the political rights of the people, there should be no situation in which the tyrant gets a chance to conspire again. The ghosts of dictatorship are not sitting. They continued their conspiracy,’ he said.
‘Despite the fall of the dictatorship, their collaborators are still plotting,’ he said virtually from London.
The BNP leader said that the goal for which the students had given their lives must be fulfilled.
Tarique also promised that if BNP comes to power, it would build Bangladesh as expected by the people.
He said that development and progress of the country is not possible without the people’s elected government.
‘For this, a people’s government elected through voting is needed. Many students became martyred in the July Revolution for the people to establish this right. Their dreams will come true,’ he said.
He said that, in addition to the establishment of political rights, everyone must work together for the economic liberation of the country.
In order to uphold the sacrifice of the martyrs, all should be united regardless of party affiliation, he said, adding that irrespective of party affiliation, the country should be developed by everyone.
He said that if BNP came power it would introduce a card for each family to give food assistance.
This family card will be issued in the name of the mother or housewife of the family, he said, adding that this work will be done first from the village and then gradually in the city, thana, upazila and district levels.
