The police recovered the body of an Awami League leader from a pointed gourd field at Mohanpur in Rajshahi on Wednesday.
The deceased, Sahabul Islam, 42, a resident of Gopali village in the upazila, was a member of Kesarhat Municipality AL鈥檚 Ward 9 unit.
Abdul Hannan, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur police station, said that Sahabul left the house on Tuesday morning but did not return at night.
鈥楢 farmer noticed Sahabul鈥檚 body lying in a pointed gourd field at Mogarbeal area, and informed the police,鈥� he said, adding that they also recovered a bottle of pesticide nearby the body.
The OC also said that Sahabul might have died by drinking pesticide as there were also traces of drinking pesticides on his mouth.
鈥榃e have sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy,鈥� he added.
