
The police on Thursday arrested former state minister for primary and mass education Zakir Hossain and former senior secretary of the ministry of home affairs Mustafa Kamal Uddin from Dhaka and Chattogram.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka courts sent Swechchhasebak League leader Sheikh Jamal to jail and another court placed Bangladesh Chhatra League vice-president Riyad on two-day remand.
Former state minister Zakir Hossain was arrested by Mohamamdpur police on Thursday evening.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner (media) Talebur Rahman said that Zakir was arrested at about 5:30pm.
It was yet to be confirmed on which case he will be shown arrested, he said.
Zakir, also a former Awami League lawmaker from Kurigram-4 constituency, was accused in several cases filed after the fall of AL government on August 5, added the police official.
Detective police on Thursday detained former senior secretary of the home ministry Mustafa Kamal Uddin from Lalkhan Bazar area of Chattogram city, Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police sources said that detectives held Mustafa following an instruction from DMP and he would be handed over to DMP following legal procedure.
He was accused in a number of cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka, CMP officials said but could not confirm in which case he was arrested.
A Dhaka court sent central committee member of Swechchhasebak League and journalist Sheikh Jamal to jail in a case filed over the killing of Juba Dal leader Shamim in 2023.
The court of Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Saifur Rahman passed the order after police produced him before the court with a 7-day remand plea for interrogation.
The court also fixed October 30 as the date for the remand hearing.
DMP鈥檚 detective branch arrested Sheikh Jamal from capital鈥檚 Moghbazar area early Thursday, said DB joint commissioner Rabiul Islam.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Thursday placed BCL vice-president Riyad on a 2-day remand after police produced him before the court with a 7-day remand plea, said Shahabuddin Shaheen, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh police station.
