Chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam on Thursday said that the date for holding the next general election would be announced after discussing with political parties on reforms in different sectors.

He made the remark while addressing a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

After the submission of the recommendations to the government by different bodies of reforms, the advisory council will hold a dialogue with political parties and decide about the extent of possible reforms, he said.

‘The date of election will depend on it,’ Shafiqul said.

He claimed that the interim government had worked very successfully in these three months.

‘It has also achieved remarkable successes. Everything is fine now. Necessary reforms will be completed first. After the completion of the reforms, the election date will be announced,’ he said.

He said that other successes of the interim government are — ensuring the way of a smooth transition of power, economic recovery from a fragile state, gaining strong global support and the roadmap for reforms and elections.

He said that the government faced many crises including commodity price hikes and unrest in the garment industry but tried to overcome the crises and deal with the situation as best as the government could.

He said that the Awami League had destroyed the country’s banking sector and added that the sector was now much better than before.
