A Juba League activist was shot and stabbed to death in the Rooppur area of Ishwaradi upazila in Pabna on Monday, a day after he was released from jail on bail.
The deceased is Walif Hossain Manik, 35, of Ruppur village and an activist of the Pakshi Union unit of Juba League.
He was released on bail in a murder case and returned home on Sunday.
Pakshi police station officer-in-charge Shafiul Islam said that the incident took place at about 9:00am when the victim was on his way to Rooppur bazaar from his home in the same village.
‘It is primarily suspected that he was killed due to a previous enmity,’ he said.
As a group of miscreants attacked him near Rooppur bazaar, he entered a nearby house to save himself but was caught, villagers said.
The police and the villagers said that the assailants shot and stabbed him to death on the spot.
The victim’s brother Sohag Hossain said that the miscreants chased him from in front of his house in a bid to kill him.
