
Three cases have been filed against Awami League and Jatiya Party leaders, including former AL lawmaker Asaduzzaman Bablu and former JP lawmaker Mashiur Rahman Ranga on various charges in Rangpur and Sylhet.
A case was filed against 39 leaders and activists of the AL and JP with the Gangachara model police station in Rangpur on Monday, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.
Gangachara upazila Jatiyatabadi Tanti Dal joint general secretary Abdullah Al Babu filed the case for obstructing the anti-quota student movement, attacking the Bangladesh Nationalist Party office, vandalising, looting, robbing and harassing the general public, David Himadri Barma, sub-inspector of the police station said.
Some 250 to 260 unidentified persons were also accused in the case.
Two cases under the Explosives Act, meanwhile, were filed against 365 AL leaders, including former Sylhet City Corporation mayor and general secretary of the United Kingdom unit of AL Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury with the Sylhet鈥檚 Kotwali police station recently.
On November 13, Masum Ahmed, a resident of Golapganj upazila, filed a case naming 49 AL activists and 100 to 150 unnamed others with the police station, United News of Bangladesh reported.
According to the case statement, AL activists equipped with deadly arms attacked them when they brought out a procession in the city鈥檚 Zindabazar area on July 19, leaving several people, including Masum critically injured.
On November 16, another person named Jahed Ahmed, a resident of Shibganj Sonarpara area of the city, filed the second case naming 106 AL activists for attacks carried out by the supporters of the then ruling AL in the Zindabazar Court Point area on August 4.
