
Leaders of the Ganatantra Mancha, a combine of six political parties, on Wednesday called on the countrymen to stay calm to avoid confrontations over the issue of arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a former senior leader of International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
Addressing a press conference at the Nagarik Oikya central office on Topkhana Road in the city, Mancha coordinator Saiful Huq, also the general secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh made the call to the interim government to handle the issue carefully.
Saiful Huq called on the interim government to sit with the political parties for establishing law and order avoiding confrontations.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna called on the interim government to take immediate steps to stop anarchies in the country.
He said that the interim government should sit with all political parties favouring the student-led mass movement.
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that some vested quarters and agents of the fascist Awami League regime were conspiring to create unrest in the country.
He called on all the pro-student movement political parties to remain united to foil the conspiracies.
Chinmoy was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday afternoon in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area and sent to jail by a Chattogram court on Tuesday amid protest that left one lawyer killed during the clash between followers of Chinmoy and members of law enforcement agencies.
Bhashani Onusari Parishad convener Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu said Indian government was trying to create threat to the sovereignty of Bangladesh on the issue of arrest of Chinmoy.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum said that Indian government was trying to create sectorial confrontations in Bangladesh and people did not responded so far.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon called on the interim government to hold the next general election as early as possible to avoid the confrontations.
