Jatiya Nagarik Committee, a platform of the youths who played a pivotal role in the student-led mass uprising, relieved its central committee member Usheapru Marma for contesting the national election under the ticket of the Trinamool Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said a press release on Friday.

‘The illegal national election of 2024, held under Awami fascism, stands as a grim mockery of the nation. Anyone who participated as a candidate in such an election cannot remain a member at any level of the Jatiya Nagarik Committee,’ read the release.

The release said that Jatiya Nagarik Committee came to know from social media platforms and media reports that Usheapru Marma contested as a candidate from Trinamool BNP the ‘dummy election’ of January 7, 2024, in Khagrachari.

Relieving Usheapru Marma of the committee, Jatiya Nagarik Committee said that it would exercise greater caution in such matters in the future.

A total of 45 members, including Usheapru Marma, were added to the extended central committee on November 25 to further the activities of the platform.

Earlier, a 55-member committee of the platform was announced at the Jatiya Nagarik Committee launch programme on September 8 aiming to work for abolishing the fascist system and implementing a new political settlement of the country.
