Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami amir Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday said that in power or out of power, deposed Awami League was a killer.
Addressing the central conference of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Jamaat’s student wing, as the chief guest at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital Dhaka, Shafiqur said, ‘They are killers when in power, killers even when out of power.’
‘They kill own party people when they do not find opponents. They do it to practice killing,’ he said.
He said that the AL announced a war to abolish political opponents, but was forced to flee through a mass uprising.
Referring to the AL’s Logi-Boitha rally in 2006, Shafiqur said that Sheikh Hasina had called her fascist political party leaders and activists to come with boat-hook and oar in the rally.
‘They killed people brutally and danced on the dead body at Paltan on the day,’ said Shafiqur, adding that the case regarding the killing could not move further after the AL came to power.
Referring to the case, he stated, ‘You might swallow it, but could not digest. It will be the cause of indigestion for you.’
‘People of the country want justice for all the killing since 2009,’ said Shafiqur, saying that not a single criminal should escape trial.
‘They cannot be a political party. They are a terrorist party. The government (interim) has already announced its terrorist student wing banned,’ said Shafiqur.
Jamaat assistant secretary general Rafiqul Islam Khan at the conference said that due to repression of fascist Awami League, Shibir could not hold its conference openly, last held at Paltan the capital Dhaka in 2009.
Jatiya Nagorik Committee chief organiser Sarjis Alam said that Shibir directly and indirectly supported the uprising and played an important role in the movement.
‘We will all together resist those who, like Hasina, will try to continue fascism in the country,’ said Sarjis.
Jamaat and former Shibir leaders along with foreign guests spoke at the opening ceremony of the conference.
