Arafat Rahman Koko

The tenth death anniversary of Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of ex-president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, the founder and current chairperson respectively of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, will be observed on Friday.

BNP and its associate bodies have taken various programmes to mark the day with due respect and remembrance.


Party leaders and activists, led by party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, will place wreaths at Koko鈥檚 grave and offer fateha at about 10:00am.

BNP will arrange a doa mahfil at its Nayapaltan central office at 11:00am seeking eternal peace for Koko鈥檚 departed soul. BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas will be present at the meeting as chief guest.

Another doa mahfil will be held at the BNP chairperson鈥檚 Gulshan office at 4:30pm, to be attended by party standing committee members and the leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies.

Different associate and professional bodies of BNP and its city and district units as well as sports organisations will also observe the day by holding various programmes, including discussions and prayer sessions, across the country.

On January 24, 2015, Koko, also a sports organiser, died of cardiac arrest aged 45 in Malaysia. His body was brought back home on January 27 and buried at Banani graveyard.
