
Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance on Wednesday at a rally in Dhaka called on the interim government to hold the next general election as early as possible.
The LDA, a combine of six left political parties, organised the rally in front of the National Press Club.
At the rally, the coordinator of the combine and also general secretary of Revolutionary Communist League Iqbal Kabir Jahid said that the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus had failed to control the law and order situation of the country.
So they should hold the next general election as early as possible carrying out required reforms to hold the election in a free, fair and credible manner, Iqbal Kabir Jahid said.
Communist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said that the people of the country were eagerly waiting for democratic transition of the country.
The interim government should hold the next general election immediately so that they could cast their voting rights, Prince said.
Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz said that the interim government had failed to implement the spirit of the July uprising and also failed to control the law and order situation of the country.
Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu said that without an elected government crises of the country would not be resolved.
SPB (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana alleged that some Islamist groups attacked the rally of the LDA in Mynensingh on Wednesday.
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Party executive president Abdul Ali also demanded an early general election for democratic transition of the country.
The rally was followed by a procession that paraded different city roads.
