The Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh on Saturday strongly condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 passed in the Indian parliament recently.
Saiful Huq, general secretary of the party, in a press statement described the amendment as an anti-Muslim activity of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Indian government, which would make the country’s minority Muslim community more insecure.
India’s parliament passed the bill to reform hugely wealthy Muslim land-owning organisations, with the Hindu nationalist government saying it will boost accountability while the opposition called it an ‘attack’ on a minority community, reported Agence France-Presse in New Delhi on Thursday.
The upper house in India passed the bill early Friday, a day after the lower house passed it amid strong criticism from the opposition.
‘It is clear that this bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha to further disempower and endanger the Muslim community of India,’ Saiful said, adding that it is a serious attack on the century-old land property of Muslims.
Saiful stated that the bill was against the Indian constitution and against religious practices of the Muslim community.
He described the bill as part of the aggressive activities of Narendra Modi-led government to isolate the Muslims in India.
Saiful called on the BJP government to move away from those activities that were anti-Muslim and would create divisions.
