
Mominul Islam was elected chairman of board of directors of the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday by its board members.
The decision was made in the first board meeting after their appointment, according to a DSE press release.
Mominul Islam has 25 years’ experience in global and local banks and financial institutions with experience in leadership, strategic and technical roles.
He is founder of Clink Advisory, a strategic financial advisory firm.
He received his masters in economics from North South University in 2017 and bachelor from Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka in 1998.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission appointed seven independent directors to the DSE on September 1, two of them declined to join the DSE.
Later the BSEC appointed two others as independent directors, however, they too declined the role.
Afterwards, the BSEC in a commission meeting on September 19 appointed Mominul Islam, and one other as DSE independent directors.
Earlier, all independent directors of the Dhaka bourse submitted their resignation letters citing personal reasons on August 22, after the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
