Bangladesh has advanced a notch in its global ranking for mobile internet speed performance, according to Ookla鈥檚 Speedtest Global Index.

The country stood at 88th place out of 111 countries in Ookla鈥檚 mobile internet speed index for November. The country previously held the 89th position in October.


The index highlighted that the average mobile internet download speed in Bangladesh increased to 28.26 Mbps in November from 27.56 Mbps in October.

Globally, United Arab Emirates held the top position of the list, offering the fastest mobile internet with an average speed of 441.89 Mbps in the reporting period. This is up from 428.53 Mbps, showing that UAE continues to provide high-speed internet to its users.

Neighbouring country India also ranked high, holding the 25th position with an average download speed of 100.78 Mbps in November. India has upped a notch from the 26th position it held in October, with an increase in its median download speed from 95.67 MBPS in that month.

Among the other South Asian countries, Maldives is at 28th position, Pakistan at 97th, Sri Lanka at 100th, Afghanistan is at 110th and Myanmar is at 111th position in terms of mobile internet speed.

Bangladesh鈥檚 mobile network landscape is dominated by five major providers, namely Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi, Airtel and Teletalk.

Among them, Banglalink has emerged as the fastest internet provider. According to the report, 89 per cent of Banglalink鈥檚 tests showed a minimum download speed of at least 5 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 1 Mbps.

In addition to mobile internet, Bangladesh also moved upwards in fixed broadband speed. The country has hopped two notches to rank 99th globally among 155 countries, compared to its previous position of 101th.

The report states that the median fixed broadband download speed in November was 48.91 Mbps compared with that of 48.06 Mbps reported in the previous month.

Ookla鈥檚 Speedtest Global Index, which provided these rankings, is a widely recognised tool that compares internet speeds across the world.
