
Zarif Abrar of Army Officers Club and Halima Jahan of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan emerged champions in the men's and women's singles events as BKSP dominated Ìýthe Victory Day Tennis Tournament that ended at the Ramna Tennis Complex in the city on Friday.
In the men's singles final, Zarif defeated Rustom Ali of the American Club by 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 set points to win the title, while in the women's singles final, Halima defeated her team-mate Subarna Khatun by 6-2, 6-1 set points.
In the men's doubles final, Rustam Ali and Milan Hossain pair of the American Club defeated Hanif Munna and Mahadi Hasan Alvi pair of Pasha Team by 6-3, 7-6 set points to win the title.
In the women's doubles final, Sushmita Sen and Sumaiya Akhtar pair of Jhalkathi Tennis Club defeated BKSP's Subarna Khatun and Jannat Ferdous pair by 6-1, 7-5 set points.
BKSP’s Kabbo Gayen won the Under-18 boys singles title, beating National Tennis Complex player Md Sayem by 7-6, 6-2 set points in the final.Ìý
Kabbo also won the Under-14 boys singles title, beating Pro Tennis Academy’s Akash Hossain by 7-6, 6-2 set points in the final.Ìý
Halima Jahan of BKSP bagged the Under-18 girls singles title, beating team-mate Jannatul Ferdous Mitu by 6-3, 6-3 set points in the final.Ìý
In the girls’ Under-14 singles final, Madaripur Tennis Club’s Jannat Hawladar beat Pro Tennis Academy’s Matsura Afrin by 6-1, 6-1 set points.Ìý
A total of 210 players from 30 clubs and organisations across the country split into eight event categories competed in the eight-day long tournament.
A total cash reward of Tk 3.35 lakh and certificates were awarded to the winning players.
Ministry of youth and sports secretary Rezaul Maksud Jahedi distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest.Ìý
Tournament sponsor Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC vice-chairman Mohammed Younus graced the occasion as the special guest, while Bangladesh Tennis Federation president and Purbani Group chairman Abdul Hai Sarkar and BTF secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
