Theatre troupe Loko Natya Dal staged the 735th show of its acclaimed production titled ‘Kanjus’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday.

‘Kanjus’, an adaptation of French playwright Moliere’s ‘The Miser’, has been adapted by Tariq Anam Khan and directed by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky.


The play is a satire which portrays the hypocrisy, greed and opportunistic tendencies of the elite in contemporary societies.

It revolves around Haider Ali, who is a miser and mistrusts everyone. Haider lives in Old Dhaka and therefore typical dialects of Old Dhaka have been used in the play.

When a burglary takes place at Haider Ali’s residence, the police are called over to look into the matter and the play moves forward.

Swadesh Dasgupta, Rubel Shankar, Abu Bakar Bakshi, Masood Suman, Zulfikar Babu, Mumu Masood, Fazlul Haque, Ananya Nishi, Mitu Rahman, Ankit Bipul and Akhter Hossain played different characters in the play.
