Renowned theatre personality Mamunur Rashid wrote, directed and performed a monodrama titled Tumba O Protibeshi which staged six shows at the Riddhi Gallery in Mirpur-11 during the Eid festival.

Produced by Bangla Theatre, four shows were held on Monday and Tuesday and two shows are scheduled to be held on Wednesday at the same venue.


The play depicts a daily life of Rahat Chowdhury who retired from his job in his sixties. He makes a communion with Tumba, the pet dog of his neighbour Rubaiyat Ali which creates an aloof situation in his daily life. A bond of friendship develops between Rahat and Tumba which frustrates his wife and she leaves their home. Rahat becomes lonely but Tumba gives company with him and the play moves forward. 

The stage was designed by Hashim Masud and the lighting was designed by Thandu Raihan for the play while Muktaneel designed the music. The costume was designed by Salma Khan.

The assistant director of the play, Shamima Shawkat, said that the play was premiered in Nepal on March 1 in an international theatre festival and these series of shows aimed to connect with new audiences in Mirpur area.
