
A total of 58 metric tonnes of garlic was imported for the first time through Mongla Sea Port on Sunday, a press release issued by Md Makruzzaman, deputy director of communication of the Mongla Port Authority said in a press release on Monday.
A Singapore flag-carrying ship namely ‘MV MARKS DAVAO’ docked at the jetty. A total of 229 TUES containers were unloaded at the jetty. Of the container, two containers 40 feet in length were loaded with 58 metric tonnes of garlic.
The commercial foreign ship left the ‘Quing Doo’ sea port of China on July 18 and docked at the MPA jetty on July 28, port officials said adding that the 58 tonnes of garlic were to be unloaded after necessary examination by the Mongla Custom House.
A total of 57 foreign commercial ships have left and arrived at the MPA jetty from July 1 to July 27 with 5.95 lakh metric tonnes of cargo, 1,474 TUES containers and 1,349 cars.
The ships carry an exported product like jute, jute goods, shrimp, white fish, readymade garments and cotton while the ships carry exported products including machinery, fertiliser, coal, stone, gas, gypsums, soya bin and pum oil, fly ash and cars.
