
Shopping malls in Barishal city started experiencing huge crowd as shopping gets momentum ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr while people were observed preferring local sharees and Punjabis.
While visiting different shopping malls in the city, the sellers were seen busy in dealing with customers as every shopping center is drawing huge crowd.
Ahead of the Eid, the shopping centers and malls have been illuminated with lights of different colors while the traders show their apparel collections in a decorative manner.
People were seen thronging apparel stores and showrooms with their family members while the traders are keeping open their shopping malls till midnight. Besides, shoe stores were seen attracting huge customers.
Tailoring shops are passing the busy time. The owners of the large tailoring shops have already stopped taking orders since last week.
Simu, Mithila and Sharmin came from Gournadi Upazila of the district to buy their favorite clothes on the occasion of the upcoming Eid.
Talking to BSS, they said they didn’t come to Barishal for Eid shopping for past several years. This year, they visited different shopping malls in the city several times since the beginning of the second week of the Ramadan.
As the shopping malls usually become crowded in the last week of Ramadan, they said, therefore, they were trying to complete their shopping earlier.
They, however, said the prices of all things are little higher this year.
Mrinal Kanti Saha of Swadeshi Bastralay in the city’s Chawkbazar area said there is a demand for modern and different designs of domestic and foreign sharees.
‘I hope the sale will increase several times in the last week of Ramadan,’ he hoped.
Prominent businessman of Chawkbazar Monirul Islam said apart from Chawkbazar, crowd of the shoppers were observed at Venus Market, Hemayet Uddin Road and Chaiti Market.
He said special security measures have been taken for traders and buyers on the occasion of the Eid shopping.
Former president of Rotary International and prominent businessman of the city, Jewel Shah Kabir Shaheen, said there is a huge demand for local clothes along with foreign ones in the market this year.
Jewel said local brands brought diversity in designs of their apparels. The price depends on the quality and modernity of the clothes, he said, adding, males are buying local fatwa and Punjabi while three-pieces and shares are at the top of the choice of the females.
