
The Armed Forces Division on Thursday promoted National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre director Brigadier General Ziaul Ahsan to the rank of major general.
In the same order, the division stated that his position was also upgraded as the director general from the director NTMC and reaffirmed his deputation under the home ministry.
Ziaul Ahsan would be the first director general of the NTMC, a national-level intelligence agency of Bangladesh responsible for monitoring, collecting, and recording information and communication data.
It is also responsible for the interception of electronic communication such as phone calls, emails, and social media accounts.
Ziaul Ahsan was widely known for his work in the Rapid Action Battalion in various capacities. Seven of the battalion鈥檚 former and serving commanders were sanctioned by the United States.
While he was serving as the additional director general of the battalion, he was transferred to the
Directorate General of
Forces Intelligence and later he was attached to National Security Intelligence as the director (internal affairs).
