The Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh on Sunday observed that passengers would have to pay an extra amount of Tk 983.94 crore in fare while leaving Dhaka during the eid vacation.
The organisation made the remark in a press release issued on the day and observed that around 1.6 crore people would go to different districts from Dhaka and its adjacent areas during this Eid-ul-Fitr.
The association shared these observations after observing eid travels on roads, railways, waterways, and airways from Dhaka to different destinations across the country between April 3 and April 6.
As per the observation, the bus owners, with the help of the transport workers, are collecting extra fares from the passengers in the name of price hike of essentials, extortion, and eid bonus.
The authorities’ vigilance teams at different bus and launch terminals are not taking any action, the association observed.
