Bangladesh Cricket Board director and local coach Khaled Mahmud withdrew himself from future roles with the men’s national team on Sunday, stating that he was no longer interested in taking on such assignments.

Mahmud, who worked as the team director of the national team in the 2023 ODI World Cup, said that he did not receive the respect he felt he deserved.

‘I think I’m no longer a solution in Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh has bigger solutions. I have no interest in any roles in the Bangladesh team. What I did at the last World Cup, I don’t think it matches with my career,’ he told the media on Sunday.

‘Maybe I’m not that big a coach but I have my sense of respect, which I did not get in the last World Cup. Thus, I don’t want to do this again.’

The former Bangladesh captain said that he was content with his roles in local cricket, stating further his unwillingness towards future national team assignments.

Mahmud also took an indirect dig at Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, stating that it was better for him to not be around the national team while it had ‘highly-paid coaches’.

‘There are so many big coaches who are highly-pain in the national team, I think it’s better that I’m not around. I’m not a kid, I have to keep my respect,’ he said.

Reportedly, there had been rifts between the Sri Lankan and Mahmud during the 2023 World Cup.
