Film insiders said that Eid films might struggle to do business this year because there were not enough cinemas to screen 13 films scheduled to be released to entertain viewers on Eid-ul-Fitr.
They said that 13 films, including 鈥楻ajkumar鈥�, 鈥楰ajol Rekha鈥�, 鈥楧eyaler Desh鈥�, 鈥極mar鈥�, 鈥楳aya- The Love鈥�, 鈥楲ipstick鈥�, 鈥楽onar Char鈥�, 鈥楳eghna Konnya鈥�, 鈥楢hare Jibon鈥�, 鈥楶otu鈥�, 鈥楳ona: Jinn-2鈥�, 鈥楧ead Body鈥� and 鈥楪reen Card鈥� were scheduled to be released in cinemas marking Eid.
Senior vice-president of Bangladesh Film Exhibitors鈥� Association, Mia Alauddin, said that as not many cinemas were operating in the country, Eid films would struggle to get money back.
鈥楾here are only around 50 running cinemas across the country nowadays and some cinemas will open their doors only for Eid,鈥� said Mia Alauddin.
He mentioned that not all films scheduled to be released on Eid would get cinemas.
Giasuddin Selim said that 鈥楰ajol Rekha鈥� won鈥檛 be screened at single-screen cinemas. It would only be released at different multiplexes.
Film producer and Jaaz Multimedia chairman, Abdul Aziz, hopes that 13 films will not be released at the same time as there are not enough cinemas to screen all films.
He mentioned that producers of some films would likely release their films at a later date.
鈥楻ajkumar鈥�, starring Shakib Khan and Courtney Coffey in lead roles, has been directed by Himel Ashraf; 鈥楰ajol Rekha鈥�, starring Sariful Razz and Mondera Chakroborty, has been directed by Giasuddin Selim; 鈥楧eyaler Desh鈥�, starring Sariful Razz and Shobnom Yesmin Bubly, has been directed by Mishuk Moni; 鈥極mar,鈥� starring Sariful Razz, Shahiduzzaman Selim and Fazlur Rahman Babu, has been directed by Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Raz; 鈥楳aya- The Love鈥�, starring Anisur Rahman Milon, Symon Sadik, Ziaul Roshan and Shobnom Yesmin Bubly, has been directed by Jasim Uddin Jakir; 鈥楲ipstick鈥�, starring Ador Azad and Puja Chery, has been directed by Kamruzzaman Roman; 鈥楽onar Char鈥�, starring Zayed Khan and Snigdha, has been directed by Zahid Hossain; 鈥楳eghna Konnya鈥�, starring Fazlur Rahman Babu and Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, has been directed by Fuad Chowdhury; 鈥楢hare Jibon鈥�, starring Ferdous Ahmed and Purnima, has been directed by Chotku Ahmed; 鈥楶otu鈥�, starring Evan Sair, Afra Shaiara and Shoab Monir, has been directed by Ahmmed Humayun; 鈥楳ona: Jinn-2鈥�, starring Suprovat Islam, Ahmed Rubel and Deepa Khondkar, has been directed by Kamruzzaman Roman; 鈥楧ead Body鈥�, starring Ziaul Roshan, Aunweshha Roy Annie, Misty Jahan, Shamol Mawla and Omar Sani, has been directed by Mohammad Iqbal and 鈥楪reen Card鈥�, starring Kazi Maruf and Nusrat Timsha, has been directed by Kazi Hayat and Roushon Ara Nipa.
Star Cineplex media and marketing manager Mesbah Uddin Ahmed said that eight local films, including Rajkumar, Omar, Deyaler Desh, Kajol Rekha, Meghna Konnya, Mona: Jinn-2, Green Card and Ahare Jibon would be screened at different branches of the Star Cineplex.
Blockbuster Cinemas head of operations Rashin Shareef said on Monday that eight local films, namely 鈥楻ajkumar鈥�, 鈥楳aya- The Love鈥�, 鈥楳ona: Jinn-2鈥�, 鈥楧eyaler Desh鈥�, 鈥極mar鈥�, 鈥楳eghna Konnya鈥�, 鈥楽onar Char鈥�, 鈥楪reen Card鈥� and 鈥楢hare Jibon鈥� were scheduled to be screened at the Blockbuster Cinemas during the occasion.
Lion Cinemas operation manager Asib Ur Rahman said on Monday that the cineplex was yet to make a decision regarding the screening schedule for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Most of the single-screen cinemas in Dhaka have chosen 鈥楻ajkumar鈥� of Eid.
Single screen Madhumita Cinema Hall owner Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad said that he would screen 鈥楻ajkumar鈥� in the cinema and Shyamoli Cinema Hall office manager Mohammad Hasan said that 鈥楻ajkumar鈥� would be screened at the cinema during the occasion.
