Six members of a family, including two children, sustained burn injuries as a gas cylinder exploded in Bhashantek area of Bangladesh capital Dhaka early Friday.
Bhashantek Police Station duty officer Md Borhan Uddin said that the incident took place at about 4:15am on Friday at a house situated in Bhashantek's Shyamalpalli Residential Area.
'The explosion occurred after one of the family members lit a match to ignite a mosquito coil. We assume that gas had accumulated in the house due to leakage from the LPG gas cylinder, which may have come in contact with the fire, causing the explosion,' he added.
The six victims are Md Liton, 52, his wife Surjo Banu, 30, and their three children Lamia, 7, Suzon, 9,聽 Liza, 18, and Surjo's 65-year-old mother, Mehrunnesa.
They were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute after being rescued by the fire service.
The Institute's resident surgeon Tariqul Islam said that all the victims were in critical condition.
