The Bangladeshi cargo ship, MV Abdullah, which was hijacked by Somalian pirates, was finally freed, along with its entire crew of 23 sailors.

KSRM Group, the company that owns the ship, made the announcement early Sunday.

Shahriar Jahan, deputy managing director of KSRM Group, confirmed the news on his verified Facebook account, stating, ‘Pirated ship MV Abdullah released! Alhamdulillah. All crews are safe and headed back home soon.’

He, however, did not give further details in his post, which was made around 4:20 am.

On March 12, a group of armed Somalian pirates seized control of the MV Abdullah as it was en route to Al Hamriyah Port in the United Arab Emirates.

The ship was carrying a cargo of coal from Mozambique's Maputo port.

The vessel is owned by SR Shipping Lines, an organisation affiliated with Chattogram-based Kabir Steel and Rerolling Mill Group.

The MV Abdullah, with its 23 crew members onboard, was carrying approximately 58,000 tonnes of coal at the time of the hijacking.
