A local union parishad member was shot to death allegedly by miscreants at Pakuria Bazar of Madhabdi upazila in Narsingdi on Monday.
The deceased was Rubel Ahmed alias Rubel, son of Shahjahan Mia, and member of ward number 8 of Amdia union parishad.
Quoting local people, Fazle Rabbi, sub-inspector of the Madhabdi police station, said that a group of assailants, riding in a private car, intercepted Rubel when he was heading towards his house at about 1:45pm by a motorbike and opened fire on him.
When Rubel fell from the motorbike, the miscreants slit the throat of Rubel and left the place after confirming his death.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Narsingdi General Hospital morgue.
Rubel had been at loggerheads with his rival Emrul in the union parishad election and police suspected some connection to that political rivalry behind the murder in broad daylight.
