A chairman candidate in the upcoming upazila parishad election in Natore was beaten on Monday, allegedly for filing his nomination paper in the elections.
The injured candidate, Delowar Hossain, was admitted to a Rajshahi hospital in critical condition.
Minutes before he was picked up in a black microbus in front of the Natore district election office, Delowar told reporters that the followers of his rival candidate, Lutfor Habib, joint-secretary of the Singra upazila Awami League and brother-in-law of state minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, also abducted his two elder brothers in the morning and held them hostages.
When Delowar went to submit a copy of the nomination papers to the district election office, a group of youths forcibly picked him up in a black microbus and started punching him, witnesses said.
Delowar鈥檚 elder brother, Kalam Union Awami League joint-general secretary Emdadul Haque, told 抖阴精品 that followers of Lutfor Habib mercilessly beat his brother, mostly on the head.
However, Lutfor Habib denied the allegation.
Tariqul Islam, superintendent of Natore police, said that they were trying to arrest the accused by reviewing CCTV footage of the abduction.
