
Bashundhara Kings moved to the semi-finals of the Federation Cup with a 2-0 win over Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society in the second quarter-final at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj on Tuesday.
Midfielder Sohel Rana and Nigerian forward Mfon Udoh scored once each in either half of the match, with Brazilian forward Robson Azevedo assisting on both occasions.
Two-time champions Kings took the lead in the 25th minute when Sohel’s grounder shot from the top of the box found the right-bottom corner of the net.
Rahmatganj goalkeeper Mamun Alif prevented his team from falling further down when he puched Kings’ defender Saad Uddin’s shot to safety two minutes later.
Kings were keen to double their lead in the second half, and they were successful in the 62nd minute when Udoh chipped the ball over the Rahmatganj keeper after Robson’s aerial pass from midfield.
Kings will play the second semi-final at the same venue on May 14 against the winners of the fourth quarter-final between Abahani Limited and Fortis Football Club, scheduled to be held in Dhaka on April 30.Â
Earlier, on April 2, Mohammedan confirmed their spot in the last four of the competition, defeating Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 2-1 goals in the first quarterfinal.
