
Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh arrested two people along with 40 gold bars weighing 4.63 kilograms at village Choygharia of Moheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah.
The arrested are Jashim Uddin, 53, son of Makbul Hossain and Humayun Kabir, 40, son of Akter Ali.
The two are residents of the village at the upazila.
On information, a team of BGB-58 conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a motorbike carrying two people as they were passing through the Palianpur bordering area at about 4:30pm on Tuesday, said a press release of the BGB on Wednesday.
Later, the BGB members arrested the duo while trying to flee the scene and seized the gold bars worth Tk 4.48 crore.
A case was filed against the duo with the Moheshpur police station in this regard and the seized gold bars would be deposited to the Jhenaidah treasury office, added the press release.
