A judicial magistrate court in Dhaka on Thursday asked film actress Shamsunnahar Smrity, known by her stage name Pori Moni, and her costume designer Junaid Boghdadi Jimmy to appear before the court on June 25 to attend the proceedings of a criminal case they are facing.
Dhaka Boat Club Limited executive committee member and businessperson, Nasir Uddin Mahmood, filed the case with the Dhaka chief judicial magistrate court on July 6, 2022, against Porimoni, her assistant Fatema Tuz Jannat Boney and Junaid accusing them of attacking him and vandalism at the club at midnight past June 8, 2021.
Judicial magistrate Saiful Islam summoned Porimoni and Junaid after accepting the probe report in the case.
The Police Bureau of Investigation submitted the probe report to the court on March 18, 2024, after the court-assigned investigation agency, the Criminal Investigation Department, failed to complete the probe into the case.
The name of Fatema was dropped from the list of the accused as her allegation could not be proved.
Pori Moni made headlines after she went on Facebook live in June 2021 accusing businessman Nasir and his associates of trying to rape and kill her at Boat Club on the city鈥檚 outskirts on June 8, 2021.
The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Pori Moni on August 4, 2021, in a narcotic substance case and she was freed on bail from Kashimpur Women Jail on September 2, 2021, after spending 27 days in the jail.
Porimoni alleged that Nasiruddin filed the case against her and her two associates to cover up his crimes at the Dhaka Boat Club.
Nasiruddin and his friend Tuhin Siddiqui Omi are facing a counter-case filed by Porimoni with the Savar police station on June 14, 2022, over the boat club incident.
On May 18, 2022, the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 9 framed sexual assault charges against Nasiruddin.
The tribunal is due to testify witness in the case.
