Hijacked Bangladeshi-flagged cargo vessel MV Abdullah with its 23 crew reached Al Hamriya Port in Dubai on Sunday afternoon after Somali pirates had freed it after 32 days reportedly on payment of ransom in the past week.

The ship reached AL Hamriya Port at about 5:00pm on the day and was in the queue to enter the port with the authority鈥檚 permission, said Mizanul Islam, spokesperson of SR Shipping, owner of the hijacked ship.

The ship will stay in the port for around one week and after loading and unloading cargo, they will start for Chattogam, he said, adding that two crew members would reach Chattogram by air while the rest of them will come with the vessel.

MV Abdullah was hijacked by dozens of Somali pirates from the Indian Ocean and was taken to the Somali coast on March 12 in a major escalation of piracy activities in the region.

Pirates attacked the MV Abdullah when it was heading for Al Hamriyah Port in the UAE, about 600 nautical miles off the Somali coast. It was carrying 58 thousand tonnes of coal from Mozambique鈥檚 Maputo port.
