
Eminent jurist and Gono Forum founder Dr Kamal Hossain on Sunday urged unity of opposition political parties to put an end to current misrule of the Awami League government.
He made the urge at a discussion organised by the party at the National Press Club to mark the 87th birthday of party’s emeritus president Dr Kamal Hossain.
Leaders of different opposition political parties also addressed the programme.
Dr Kamal said that the country was facing misrule of the Awami League and the opposition parties should wage movements to end the misrule.
Adviser to Socialist Party of Bangladesh Khalequzzaman appreciated the role of Dr Kamal in the field of politics and the judiciary of Bangladesh and said that he worked all his life for the welfare of the common people.
Nagarik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that Dr Kamal was the lighthouse in the politics of Bangladesh and he could play a prominent role to free the country from misrule of the ruling Awami League.
Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD president Sharif Nurul Ambia hoped that Kamal would play a role in restoration of democratic rule in the country.
Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh general secretary Saiful Huq also said that Dr Kamal could take initiative for restoration of democratic rule and voting rights of the people.
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki hoped that Kamal would continue his politics for the betterment of the common people of the country.
Advisory editor to Bangla daily Samakal, Abu Sayeed Khan, Sujan general secretary Badiul Alam Majumder, academic Abdul Latif Masum, Gono Forum acting president SM Altaf Hossain and general secretary Mizanur Rahman and others also spoke at the programme.
Leaders of different political parties and socio-cultural organisations greeted Dr Kamal with floral wreaths.
