
Two people, including a school student, drowned in the Padma River in Rajshahi while taking a bath on Sunday.
The deceased are Bappi Hossain, 16, son of Babu Hossain of the Sayergacha area in the Rajshahi city and Monir Hossain, 20, son of Shahin Hossain of the same area.
Bappi took the Secondary School Certificate examination this year while Monir was a construction worker by profession.
Md Abu Sama, senior station officer of Rajshahi fire service and civil defence, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that a group of youths went to the river near the Nabaganga Ghat area at Paba upazila at about 1:00pm for taking a bath.
‘While taking a bath, Bappi and Monir drowned’, he said, adding that on information, a team of the station recovered the bodies of the two from the river at about 4:00pm.
Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the Rajshahi naval police, said that the bodies of the youths were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue.
‘After a legal process, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives,’ he added.
