Two people, including a rural doctor, were abducted in Teknaf upazila of Cox鈥檚 Bazar Sunday night.
This incident took place on the hill slope of Whykong-Baharchara road of the upazila.
One of the abducted was identified as Zahir Uddin Arman, of Ukhiya鈥檚 Thaingkhali, while the identity of the other person yet to be known.
Zahir鈥檚 brother Kamar Uddin Mukul said that Zahir, who was a rural doctor in Shamlapur of Teknaf, was on his way to home in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw at about 9:00pm.
A group of armed people stopped the auto-rickshaw at the Whykong hill slope and took Zahir and another passenger as hostages to the mountains, he said, adding that they were informed by the driver of the vehicle about the kidnapping.
The perpetrators had demanded a ransom of Tk 6 lakh over a phone call, he added.聽聽聽
Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Osman said that they had been working to rescue the abducted persons.聽
Between March 2023 and April 21, 2024, a total of 120 people, including the duo, were abducted from different areas of Teknaf.
Among them, 62 were local residents, while the rest were Rohingya citizens.
