
Protesting at the attack on two physicians in the port city, Bangladesh Medical Association Chattogram unit announced that all private practice would remain closed for 24 hours.
Dr Muzibul Haq, president of the organisation confirmed the matter on Monday.
‘Protesting the attack on two physicians in Chattogram, we decided to keep all private practice closed from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning,’ he said.
During the work abstention, only admitted patients in the hospital and those who would come on an emergency basis would get treatment, he added.
On the night of April 11, Raktim Das, 29, a physician at the emergency ward of Patiya general hospital in Chittagong, was seriously injured after being attacked by local Awami League leaders for delay in treating a patient, who suffered a heart attack.
On April 14, Riaz Uddin Shiplo, 30, a physician of Chattogram medical centre hospital sustained injuries after being attacked by the relatives of a patient, who allegedly died due to wrong treatment.
