At least 10 journalists and YouTubers were injured in a clash that broke out at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation on Tuesday.
They went there to cover the oath taking ceremony of newly elected committee of Bangladesh Film Artistes鈥� Association.
Misa Sawdagar was elected president and Monowar Hossain Dipjol was elected general secretary for 2024-2026 term in the Bangladesh Film Artistes鈥� Association election held on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation premises on Friday.
It was alleged that actors Shiba Shanu, Alexander Bo and organising secretary of the newly elected committee, Joy Chowdhury, lead the attack.
According to eyewitnesses, at least 10 journalists and YouTubers were injured in the attack which broke out when actor Shiba Shanu allegedly pushed a journalist of Khaborer Kagoj, Mithun Al Mamun, who was trying to interview daughter of actress Mayuri.
Journalists of Desh TV, ATN Bangla, Khoborer Kagaj, News 24 and others were attacked at the venue. The attackers assaulted the journalists and broke cameras and phones, alleged eye witnesses.聽
鈥楽hiba Shanu called me a Youtuber and pushed me when I was trying to interview the daughter of Mayuri. Joy Chowdhury played a role in instigating violence against journalists. Later, the journalists at the venue came under attack,鈥� said Mithun Al Mamun.聽
He said that over ten journalists were injured in the attacks and the injured ones were taken to Dhaka Medical College.
Misha Sawdagar and Monowar Hossain Dipjol regretted the incident and said that a committee would investigate into the matter and identify those responsible for the incident.
An 11-member committee with producer Ashraf Adnan as chief advisor has been formed to investigate into the incident.
The members of the committee comprise journalists Lemon Ahmed, Rahat Saiful, Ahmed Tauquir, Bulbul Ahmed Joy and Abul Kalam and members of BFAA newly elected committee Misha Sawdagar, DA Tayeb, Nana Shah, Rubel and Ratna.
The journalists have placed five point demands, including treatment of the injured, punishment of Shiba Shanu, Joy Chowdhury and Alexander Bo, formal apology by issuing a press release, compensation for broken equipment.
