The Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Wednesday said that the city corporation would conduct drives to control dengue from May.

‘As the rainy season is going to start in June, we are ensuring that all preparations are completed beforehand so that drives can be carried out in advance to combat dengue,’ he told the media after inspecting the renovation work of Kazi Bashir Auditorium at Shaheed Matiur Park in Gulisthan.

The mayor also warned authorities of under construction buildings to halt their works, if larvae are found at the construction sites.

‘In recent surveys and research, it has been found that buildings under construction have significant breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes… If Aedes mosquito larvae are found, not only will fines be imposed, but construction work will also be halted,’ he warned.

The DSCC mayor also urged all developer organisations, especially REHAB, to play their due role in destroying breeding sources of the mosquito-borne disease.

The mayor also said that Kazi Bashir Auditorium, widely known as Mahanagar Natyamancha, will be reopened this year after renovation.
