
The leaders of different garment workers’ right bodies on Wednesday observed 11th Rana Plaza Day placing wreaths at the monument at Savar bus stand and also holding rallies and procession in the area.
Leaders of Garment Sramik Samhati at a protest rally demanded punishment for the Rana Plaza owners responsible for the killing more than 11,000 workers of different garment factories located on different floors of the building that collapsed in 2013.
Sramik Samhati president Taslima Akhter said that it was unfortunate that the owners of the factory were not punished yet 11 years after the incident.
She alleged that the negligence of the Awami League government were responsible for the delay in the completion of trial over the deaths.
Researcher Mahin Sultan, general secretary of the organisation Babul Hossain, vice-president Anjan Das, Nasima Akter, mother of killed worker Akhi Akter and others spoke at the rally.
Moreover, Sramik Samhati held a two-day photography show at the bus stand to mark the day.
Garment Sramik Oikya Form leaders and activists placed a wreath at the monument and held a rally in front of it where president of the organisation Mushrefa Mishu chaired.
Mushrefa Mishu demanded exemplary punishment for the people responsible for the incident.
Acting  general secretary Shahidul Islam Sabuj demanded more compensation for the workers affected in the incident.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different city roads.
Garment Workers’ Trade Union Centre also placed a wreath at the monument and held a discussion to mark the day.
Chaired by the vice-president of the organisation, JolyTalukder, the programme was addressed by general secretary Sadequr Rahman Shamim, central leaders of the organisation Mohammad Shahjahan, Sajeda Begum and Ruhul Amin.
The rally was followed by a protest procession that paraded different roads of the town.
