The Movie and Drama Club of Southeast University has recently organised a daylong film festival on the War of Independence at its Multipurpose Hall in the capital. 

Inaugurated by Professor ANM Meshquat Uddin, the film festival titled ‘Film Festival on Liberation War 2024’ was organised aiming at beckoning the youth of the country to witness the poignant tapestry of the country’s independence.


Three films based on the war titled ‘Ora 7 Jon’ directed by Khijir Hayat Khan, ‘Agami’ by Morshedul Islam and ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’ by Nurul Alam Atique were screened at the festival.

Pro-vice-chancellor of the SEU Professor M Mofazzal Hossain, Professor Farhana Helal Mehtab delivered speeches at the festival.

Matia Banu Shuku, in her speeches, appreciated the SEU Movie and Drama Club for organising the festival and inspired the students to watch Bangla films.

Film artistes Zinat Sanu Swagata, Jyotika Jyoti, Zakia Bari Mamo, Imtiaz Barshon, Nafis Ahmed, Hamidur Rahman and Shahriar Ferdous Shajib also shared their thoughts and reflected on different aspects of Bangladeshi cinema at the festival.

Nurul Alam Atique, Matia Banu Shuku, Khijir Hayat Khan and Zakia Bari Momo also took part to a question and answer session, which was conducted by Southeast University Bangla department assistant professor Masud Shams Aldin.

Atique, Khijir Hayat and the producer of ‘Laal Moroger Jhuti’ Matia Banu Shuku were also honoured with accolades by the club. 

Filmmaker Shamol Shishir, a member of the Southeast Movie and Drama Club, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that in order to create a sense of responsibility towards the country and the people of the country, the club organised the day-long film festival.

‘Students enjoyed the films screened at the festival. We would like to organise the festival annually,’ Shishir added.
