
Theatre troupe Theatre Art Unit staged two shows of its 36th theatre production titled ‘Madhab Malanchi’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday and Saturday.
The play, based on a story from the collection of Momenshahi Gitika, was written by Bibhash Chakraborty and directed by Rokeya Rafique Baby.
The play revolves around the love story of Durlabh Raja’s son Madhab and Balaraja’s daughter Malanchi.
‘Madhab Malanchi’ begins with Sutradhar, played by Nuruzzaman Babu, narrating the story of Durlabh Raja’s youngest son Madhab. Durlabh Raja, the father of five sons, gives the responsibility of raising Madhab to his eldest son’s wife Chandraban after the death of the queen.
Conflict begins among the brothers over the succession of the throne and they plan to kill Madhab. Chandraban sends Madhab to another country to protect him and the play moves forward.
Mehmud Siddique Lalin, Indrani Ghatak, Rakibul Islam Manik, Sajal Chowdhury, Ismail Siraji, Rana Sikdar, Kazi Tanvir, Mahmuda Bhabna, Sujan Rezaul, Dolon Aziz, Hasnat Pradip, Nahid Sultana Lemon and others played different characters in the play.
Theatre Art Unit premiered the play Madhab Malanchi at the Experimental Theatre Hall of BSA on June 21, 2022.
