The car of Shibalay upazila chairman candidate in Manikganj has allegedly been attacked Saturday night.
Abdur Rahim Khan, chairman candidate of the upazila, on Sunday, alleged that miscreants fired bullets and threw crude bombs at his car at Shimulia union of the upazila.
He was attacked on his way to Betuni area from Shakrail after completing a meeting at about 11:00pm.Â
Abur Rahim, also the ruling Awami League Manikganj district unit vice-president, lodged a complaint with Shibalay police station Sunday evening.
Confirming the matter, Shibalay police station officer-in-charge Abdur Rauf Sarkar said that they had received a complaint over the incident.
‘We will take necessary actions after investigating the matter,’ the OC added.Â
The attack had taken place three hours after the candidate feared such incident by his rivals while exchanging views with reporters.
A tense situation is prevailing in the area over the attack on Abur Rahim.
According to the complaint, when the car reached at Bezpara graveyard, five to six miscreants first tried to stop the vehicle and threw five to six crude bombs from behind.
They also fired four to five rounds of bullets towards the car and he, however, managed to take the vehicle at a place to save his life, Abur Rahim added.
He said that the attack was carried out to resist fair election and to create obstacles in his election campaign.
‘My rivalry candidate carried out the attack by his goons,’ he added.
However, no causality was reported in the incident.
