The High Court on Monday asked the government authorities to suspend classes at all the schools and madrassahs until May 2 amid the ongoing heatwave across Bangladesh.

The closure order would exclude the O levels and A level educational institutions having air condition facilities.

The colleges and universities were also kept out of the order, said deputy attorney general SK. Shaifuzzaman.

The bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat issued the directive on suo muto after Supreme Court lawyer Monir Uddin drew the court鈥檚 attention to reported death of 18 people since the beginning of the heatwave earlier in the month.
