Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner Habibur Rahman has instructed the members of the traffic and other on-duty police to shut all roadside tea stalls by 11:00pm in the capital city.

He gave the instruction at the March crime review meeting at the Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh on Sunday.

He said that tea stalls should be closed at night to prevent robbery and other crimes in the city.

‘Tea shops remain open till late night in different parts of the capital, while some remain open the whole night. At these stalls many criminals hang out all night waiting for opportunities for theft,’ he said.

Commissioner Munibur Rahman also ordered the on-duty police members to check whether cars carrying police stickers on them really belong to members of the police force.

‘We have got information that criminals roam around by posing as policemen or their families with stickers on their vehicles. Strict legal action would be taken if any car is found carrying such stickers falsely,’ he said.

The DMP commissioner also said that community policing and beat policing system should be strengthened to investigate the causes of crimes and to prevent them.
