The University of Glasgow of the United Kingdom has joined hands with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for the study of heart disease.

Vice-chancellor Deen Md Nurul Haque agreed in principal to provide support from the university in the research of heart disease and implementation of cardiac rehabilitation model in the country.


In a meeting at the BSMMU on Tuesday, Professor Rod Taylor of the University of Glasgow expressed his interest in working with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the next five years in heart disease research.

National Heart Foundation Research Institute, Ibrahim Cardiac Centre and Research Institute will also work jointly in this research programme with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, said a press release.

BSMMU pro-vice-chancellor (academic) Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, former pro-vice-chancellor Md Shahidullah Sikder, former pro-vice-chancellor Md Zahid Hossain, UGC Professor Sajal Krishna Banerjee, BSMMU registrar Professor ABM Abdul Hannan, chairman of the Department of Cardiology Professor Chowdhury Meshkat Ahmed, Professor Md Harisul Haque, Professor Jahanara Arju, Associate Professor Md Fakhrul Islam Khaled, Associate Professor Mithila Faruq and others were present.
