Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering, who had boycotted all sorts of academic activities, protesting Bangladesh Chhatra League’s move to restore political activities on BUET campus, decided to sit for the examinations.

The exams, postponed and suspended due to the movement, will begin on May 11, and new exam routine will be published soon.

The decision was taken at a meeting between class representatives and BUET administration on Tuesday, said professor Mohammad Al Amin Siddique, director of the Directorate of Students’ Welfare of the university.

He said that the students, who had already taken the exams, would be allowed to retake the exams also if they wished.

‘Those, who do not wish to retake the exams, will be evaluated based on their previous results,’ he added.

BUET students have been waging a movement, boycotting classes and examinations since March 29 to press home their demands, including expulsion of student Imtiaz Hossen, member of the BCL central committee, for resuming politics on the university, defying a previous ban on politics on the campus.

However, High Court, responding to a writ petition filed by Imtiaz, allowed activities of all political organisations on BUET campus on April 1.

The authorities of BUET on April 20 decided to postpone the ongoing examinations.
