The Dhaka Senior Special Judge’s Court on Tuesday sent Dhaka district registrar Whadul Islam to jail in a case filed on the charges of amassing illegal wealth and concealing information about his wealth.

Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after Whadul surrendered before his court and sought bail in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission in 2023.


The court also accepted a charge sheet submitted by ACC assistant director Niamul Ahsan Gazi, also  the investigation officer of the case, on January 9 against Whadul and his wife Parveen Hossain Bhuyain in the case.

‘The accused surrendered before the court with a bail petition, but the court rejected his plea after hearing and sent him to jail in the case,’ said ACC public prosecutor Rezaul Karim.

According to the case, on September 21, 2023, the ACC filed the case against Whadul Islam with the commission’s integrated district office in Dhaka-1.

Whadul amassed assets worth Tk 1.21 crore beyond his known source of income, while he also concealed information about his wealth worth Tk 94.5 lakh in his wealth statement submitted to the ACC, said the case statement.
