Members of Arakan Army, a rebel group in Myanmar, reportedly abducted 10 Bangladeshi fishermen, while fishing in the Naf River in Rahmater Bil area of Palongkhali union in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhia upazila Wednesday morning.

The abducted fishermen are – Jane Alam, Abdur Rahim, Anwarul Islam, Saiful Islam, Ayubul Islam, and Shaheen of Rahmater Bil area, Abdur Rahim of Gaujghona area, Osman Gani, Md Osman, and Abul Hashim of Putibnia area in Ukhia.


Confirming the matter, Palongkhali union parishad chairman Gafur Uddin Chowdhury said that Arkan Army kidnapped 10 Bangladeshi fishermen while they were fishing in the Naf River.

The upazila administration had been informed about the matter, he added.

Ukhia upazila nirbahi officer Md Tanbir Hossain said that he came to know about the matter through the UP chairman.

The higher authorities were immediately informed about the matter, he said.

‘This is an international problem. Therefore, efforts are being made to rescue the victims with the intervention of the Border Guard Bangladesh,’ added the UNO.
