Folk artistes from across the country celebrated philosophy of Fakir Lalon Shah singing his songs at a programme held at the Central Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University campus on Thursday.
The programme was organised by Sammilita Sangskritik Jote.
Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Ghulam Quddus called on all the units of the SSJ to organise events on Lalon songs across the country within one week to spread the messages of the songs among people.
Ghulam Quddus said that people participated in the War of Independence in 1971 to live in a country where people of different religions and ethnicities would be able to live in harmony, and Lalon also urged people to build such a society.
He added that people who did not want harmony in society conspired against Lalon’s philosophy. They attacked folk artistes singing Lalon songs and arrested people who promoted the philosophy of Lalon on social media.
Mamunur Rashid said that people who arrested a man in Shariatpur for allegedly ‘hurting religious feelings’ by his Facebook post using Lalon Fakir’s song should be punished because Lalon advocated religious harmony and peace through his songs.
The man was later granted bail by a local court.
The event began with Monika Dewan rendering ‘Dekho Dekho Monoray’ and ‘Jekhane Snai’r Baramkhana’.
Later, Nobonita Chowdhury sang songs, including Emon Manab Samaj, Emon Manob Janam Ar Ki Hobe and Maula Bole Dak Rosona.
Besides, Farida Parveen, Chandana Majumder, Asif Iqbal Sourav, Anima Mukti Gomez, Dil Afroz Reba, Lovely Dev, Pallavi Sarkar, Abu Bakr Siddiqui, Inal Haq, Khagendranath Bairagi, Fakir Shahbuddin, Sardar Hirak Raja, Raffia Runa, Lamia Aishwarya and Tamanna Nigar Tuli, among others, sang Lalon songs at the event.
Dhaka Theatre president Nasir Uddin Yousuff, Ghulam Quddus, Bangladesh Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad vice-president Fakir Sirajul Islam, Bangladesh Path Natak Parishad general secretary Ahmed Gias, Bangladesh Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad general secretary Manzarul Islam Chowdhury, thespian Mamunur Rashid, Liberation War Museum trustee Mofidul Hoque, among others, were present at the event.
