Shakib Al Hasan鈥檚 first hundred in almost five years went in vain as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club lost to Gazi Group Cricketers by two wickets in their Dhaka Premier League Super Six match at the BKSP-4 Ground in Savar on Friday.

Shakib scored 107 off 79 balls to bring up his 10th List-A ton as Sk Jamal posted a respectable 280-9 in their 50 overs after batting first. Apart from Shakib, Yasir Ali also scored 71 runs.


This was Shakib鈥檚 first hundred since his epic ton against the West Indies in the ICC 2019 World Cup.

This was also his maiden hundred in domestic List-A cricket since his previous nine List-A hundreds came in the one-day internationals he played for the Bangladesh national team.

The southpaw came in to bat at number five when his team was struggling at 63-3 after 18.1 overs. Shakib played in his usual way, hitting nine boundaries and seven maximums in his quickfire innings.

Shakib took 73 balls to reach his maiden List A hundred. He was cautious after reaching 96 with a maximum and took four singles afterwards to reach his hundred.

Chasing 281, Gazi Group lost a few early wickets. At one point, they were 54-4 in the 11th over.聽 But Mahfuzur Rabby and Sabbir Hossain Shikder remained calm and kept the hunt going.

Sabbir departed for 64 but Rabby bagged his hundred. The southpaw who recently led Bangladesh in the U-19 World Cup a few months ago, scored 125 runs from 118 balls hitting three boundaries and 12 maximums.

Shakib was wicketless with the. Gazi Group eventually reached the target keeping two balls and two wickets in hand.

In the day鈥檚 other Super League matches, already champions Abahani beat arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club by nine runs thanks to a ton from skipper Mosaddek Hossain (133 off 101 balls) at Fatullah.

For Abahani Sabbir Hossain also made 91 off 78 balls.

Prime Bank beat Shinepukur Cricket Club by 111 runs at the BKSP Ground-3. Prime Bank captain Zakir Hasan played a scintillating knock of 157 from 130 balls.
